Effect of Korean Medicine treatment Inculuding Acupotomy on the Level of Pain and Quality of Life of Patinets with Lumbar Herniated Intervertebral Disc : A Retrospective Observational Study

Abstract

|
Objective : The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness and satisfaction of patients wi th lumbar herniated intervertebral disc treated by Korean Medicine treatment including Acupotomy.
Methods : This study retrospectively analyzed the medical records of 35 patients who treated with a cupotomy and Korean Medicine treatment among patients diagnosed with lumbar herniated interverteb ral disc at the Korean Medicine Hospital in Korea from September 01, 2020 to Agust 31, 2021. The clinical data were analyzed using IBM SPSS ver.23.0.
Results : Comparing NRS, EQ-5D, and EQ-VAS before and after Korean Medicine treatment includin g acupotomy, all showed significant improvement(p<0.01). Out of a total of 35 patients, 11 very sati sfied (31.4%), 13 somewhat satisfied (37.1%), 6 neutral (17.1%), 5 somewhat dissatisfied (14.3%), and 0 very dissatisfied (0%). Of the total 35 patients, 27 patients (77.1%) had a desire for continuo us treatment and 8 patients (22.9%) did not.
Conclusion : Korean Medicine treatment including Acupotomy was effective for patients with lumbar herniated intervertebral disc. It is hoped that further studies on the efficacy and safety of Korean Me dicine treatment and Acupotomy for lumbar herniated intervertebral discs will be conducted in the future.
